Budapest sightseeing
Budapest is the capital of Hungary and its political, cultural and sports center. One-fifth of the population, two million people live here. The capital is divided by the country's largest river, the Danube. The mountainous Buda lies on the right shore while the flat Pest lies on the left shore. Its area is divided into 23 districts of which the I, II, III, XI, and the XII are in Buda and district XXI in Csepel Island, and the rest in Pest. The city was unified of three independent parts in 1872. Pest was an industrial and commercial city in the Middle Ages and modern times, while Buda was a royal residence.
